Apple on a String
Taz, the Tasmanian Devil, has a devilishly large mouth and devours anything and everything he can get his hands on. It’s not as easy as you think to do the same as him! Will you be able to take a bite out of an apple without using your hands?
Equipment:
An apple,
A piece of string
A blindfold
Place:
Anywhere, as long as there’s somewhere up high to attach the piece of string
Number of players:
From 3 to 12 people
This game is Taz-tastic!
Tie one end of the piece of string to the stalk of the apple, then tie the other end somewhere up high: the apple must hang down level with the shortest player’s face.
Draw lots or use a counting rhyme to decide who’s going to be Taz first. Whoever is chosen is blindfolded and spun around on the spot like Taz (not too much though – be careful you don’t make him dizzy!). He has to keep his hands behind his back.
The other players then shout out instructions to guide him towards the apple: “move forwards a bit more”, “take two steps towards me”, “take three steps back”, etc.
When ‘Taz’ has touched the apple with his face, the other players start counting
up to 20: this is the amount of time that ‘Taz’ has got to try to take a bite out of the apple.
All the players have one turn each then, if no-one has succeeded; the amount of time allowed is increased. The winner is of course the ‘Taz’ who manages to take a bite out of the apple… and his prize is the right to eat it all up!
